"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution -- then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise.” ~ Aldous Huxley~

Aldous Huxely: Foot Note
I personally believe that many people misunderstood Aldous Huxley because he used drugs to open his mind to new things. The use of drugs enlightened his mind and experiences to a new level and he perceived them to be something so intricate. I believe that if he wouldn't have experimented than he wouldn't have been so successful nor would he have opened the "doors of perception" to many people. His work has influenced many people and has helped many professionals.
