A lot of Americans neglect that cubism was a true form of art. Many misunderstand the concept of cubism and the reason it orginated from. Cubism was created by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque as a revolt against the artistic expression of the previous eras. The first phase of cubism was the analytic(1907-1912) which portrayed an everyday object as the mind would perceive it to be. A variety of browns, blacks, off-whites, and grays were used in these paintings. By using geometric, subtle, and intricate compositions to portray a form Picasso and Braque intended to appeal to the intellect. From 1913 through the 1920's the synthetic phase began in which brighter colors were included. The art derived from this era were for more decorative purposes. They were composed of fewer and simpler forms to lessen the extent of natural objects. Cubism influenced several different styles of art including African sculptures, even the first phase of cubism influenced those to make a broader approach and incorporate different aspects to the form of art. I personally believe that throughout the years cubism has been misrepresented by some artists and should go back to the orginal form.
