Literary Criticism

In my opinion literary criticism should provide an insight as well as critique on pieces of work. Everyday we take in account the opinion of others about movies, classes, cities, and etc. The opinion of others can be a big factor to whether or you will go and see that movie or take that class and etc. Literary criticism is just an experts opinion of a piece of work which gives an intelligent and citical analyses of it.
After reading J. D. Salingers "Teddy", I was rather shocked and slightly disturbed. The character Teddy is a ten year old boy who speaks and acts as though he should be a 50+ wise old man. He is very articulate and dissociates himself from worldy possessions and materials. Teddy tends to carry very philosophical conversations. His family seemes to not even pay attention to how intellectual Teddy was and didn't really take his conversations very seriously. I honestly think that his character was very unreal because any 10 year old child will not be so enlightened as Teddy was. Also they way he wrote in his journal was as if he was an older gentleman. On the other hand, the book was very intriguing and interesting from beginning to end.

MLA Blog Post : New Journalism

"Back in New York, Conover was rankled at a cocktail party when a friend introduced him as 'Ted Conover, a writer who makes his living sleeping on the ground.' The accuracy of the remark disturbed him. ' I was unsetteled to feel so easily typecast as age thirty, and began to wonder whether my participant-oberserver method could be used to write about people who weren't remote or poor.' Aldous Huxely: Foot Note

I personally believe that many people misunderstood Aldous Huxley because he used drugs to open his mind to new things. The use of drugs enlightened his mind and experiences to a new level and he perceived them to be something so intricate. I believe that if he wouldn't have experimented than he wouldn't have been so successful nor would he have opened the "doors of perception" to many people. His work has influenced many people and has helped many professionals.

"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution -- then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise.” ~ Aldous Huxley~

Abstract- Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk

Cow's milk proteins damage the human immune system. The National Dairy Council suggest that drinking milk will promote strong bones and if you don't your bones will become brittle. So out of fear Americans consume a larger amount of dairy in their diet. Dairy products are the leading cause of food allergies as well as asthma and sinus infections. In 1989 a study was conducted in Nutrition and Cancer which linked the risk of developing non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with the consumption of cow's milk and butter. It causes loss of iron and hemoglobin in infants by triggering blood loss from the intestinal tract. There are several other health problems derived from dairy consumption including colic, vitamin D toxicity, diabetes, ovarian cancer, autoimmune diseases, and childhood anemia, just to name a few.

Cubism

A lot of Americans neglect that cubism was a true form of art. Many misunderstand the concept of cubism and the reason it orginated from. Cubism was created by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque as a revolt against the artistic expression of the previous eras. The first phase of cubism was the analytic(1907-1912) which portrayed an everyday object as the mind would perceive it to be. A variety of browns, blacks, off-whites, and grays were used in these paintings. By using geometric, subtle, and intricate compositions to portray a form Picasso and Braque intended to appeal to the intellect. From 1913 through the 1920's the synthetic phase began in which brighter colors were included. The art derived from this era were for more decorative purposes. They were composed of fewer and simpler forms to lessen the extent of natural objects. Cubism influenced several different styles of art including African sculptures, even the first phase of cubism influenced those to make a broader approach and incorporate different aspects to the form of art. I personally believe that throughout the years cubism has been misrepresented by some artists and should go back to the orginal form.
